I have been using the internet for many years already and have online accounts to countless programs, but I really haven't paid much attention to passwords / account protection. I have heard about phishing and keyloggers as methods of stealing passwords and hacking into someone's account / computer, but I really did not find out more about it. In my thinking...those information are just beyond what I'm willing to learn. Haha!
But out of curiosity, I made some research yesterday, and found out some shocking truths. How easy it is for someone to get hold of your password these days!!!
In this post, I would only want to point out a very basic thing though...do you know that your friend could easily steal your accounts' passwords simply by looking for that information in your web browser? You probably know about this already but I just found out about it and tried it yesterday. So for those of you who still don't know about it, here's the information...
HOW TO STEAL / HACK YOUR FRIEND'S ACCOUNTS' (EMAIL, ETC.) PASSWORD/S
This trick will only work if:
1. Your friend is using Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome web browser.
2. When logging in to his/her accounts, your friend has chosen to save and remember his/her passwords when he/she was given an option by the computer to do so.
It will let you look at all the web address with their corresponding usernames and passwords that your friend allows to be remembered by his/her computer. It will only take less than a minute.
FOR MOZILLA FIREFOX USERS:
1. Open Mozilla Firefox
2. Go to Tools >> Options
3. Then go to "Security" tab.
4. In there, you will see "Saved Passwords". Click on that.
5. It will show you the list of URL address with its associated usernames.
6. Click on the one that you want to see the password. And then click on "Show Passwords" at the bottom. There it goes, you've got the password you want!
FOR GOOGLE CHROME USERS:
1. Open Google Chrome
2. Go to Settings >> Options
3. Then go to "Personal Stuff" tab
4. In there, you will see "Show saved passwords". Click on that.
5. It will show you the list of URL address with its associated usernames.
6. Click on the one that you want to see the password. And then click on "Show Password" at the right side. That's it!
So I guess allowing your computer to remember passwords is not such a good idea after all. But if you are someone like me who struggles to remember numerous passwords, that book from Amazon, "Perfect Passwords" (featured above), might help give you some tips to create perfect passwords that's easy to remember.
Or this mobile mobile password key might be of some help. Just don't forget the pin and of course, don't lose it!
